According to the stats published by Aena, the Spanish airports registered 66,305,130 passengers between January and May 2013. This means a decrease by 6.6% compared with 2012.Madrid would have had 15,373,092 clients: 14.7% less than within the same period last year.Looking at May separately 16,885,317 passengers would have used the Spanish airports during this month. According to the information from the Statistic National Institute (INE) the number of passengers who chose the airplane for their domestic trips fell by 16.1% in April. The passengers who travel by train decreased by 2.9%.In total, over 105.3 million people used an intercity transportation in April. This means an increase by 2.1% with drops in every way of transport but the bus, which increased by 7.6%.In the case of the train, the decrease was in the short distance (3.6%), however the long haul gained passengers by 9.5%. According the the Airports Council International and their European list on traffic in the airports, Madrid Barajas is the one which suffered the highest passenger loss during the first three months in 2013. Since the beginning of the financial crisis, the Spanish airports lost 16.3 million passengers. According to the data published by Aena, 2012 ended with 194.2 million passengers. This means a decrease by 7.7% in comparison with 2007, when 210.5 million passengers used the Spanish facilities. In 2008 and 2009 the number of passengers decreased by 2.4% and 9.4% respectively.
