Aena will earn 40 million by eliminating incentives in 2017 Airlines,Airports,Charges,Regulations

Today El Confidencial  published that Aena has decided to eliminate the passenger growth incentives for those airports that exceed three million passengers per year. In spite of the change, a new incentive for long-haul routes has been introduced and in the meantime the valley days in the Canaries remain the same. The selective removal of incentives that were being implemented in previous years will compensate the reduction of Aena’s income resulting from a decrease of charges effective as of 1st March. A representative from Menorca’s government, María Sellarés, confirmed the expected traffic increase of the UK airlines in the Balearic Island for the summer of 2016. During the WTM 2015, Jet2.com, Monarch and easyJet announced they have increased the number of seats offered for Menorca for the next summer season. According to Sellarés, the improvements for the island are a consequence of “the strength of the sterling pound, the good trend of our local economy and the increased confidence of consumers. Yesterday, the 2016 General Budget process was finalized at the Parliament with the approval of the amendments which were previously included at the Senate. These amendments will be incorporated into the final text which will be published in the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE) on January, 1 2016. As expected, the parliament approved the 1.9% reduction in all the airport charges. This reduction will be effective as of March, 1 2016. In spite of the fact that neither Aena nor the Government have made any official announcement yet, this morning, ElConfidencial confirmed that Aena has decided to apply a 1.9% reduction in charges. “Not only will Aena apply a 1.9% reduction in airport charges  as Competition told them to do, but they will reinstate the incentives on new routes and increase of passengers as well”. Starting the 25th of October the company will fly to Gran Canaria and Tenerife Norte from Madrid. This morning, in a press conference, Ryanair announced they will start selling tickets for flights to Castellón. ElMundo and LasProvincias have just informed that José Espartero – Ryanair’s Commercial director in Spain and Portugal – explained that the airline will connect Castellón with Bristol and London-Stansted as of September. In particular, they will start Castellón-London on September 15, to operate three times a week; Castellón-Bristol will begin on September 16 and will have 2 frequencies per week. Last Tuesday 30th December, the Official Gazette BOE published the General State Budget that includes the Aena 2015 charges. It is confirmed that with effect 1st March 2015 and with “indefinite validity”, the prices will remain unchanged. In July, Aena confirmed that the airport charges would be frozen until 2025.
