This Wednesday, the minister of development (Fomento) announced that Aena will invest over 120 million Euros in building a new terminal for Tenerife South airport. She has pointed out that this investment will be considered in the Document for Airport Regulation (DORA). This is to be approved by Aena’s board at the beginning of January. Having Málaga airport’s second runway closed during peak days can generate between 30 and 45 minute delays according to USCA. This was reported by LaOpiniónDeMálaga on October 3. This news means that Plus Ultra now has all the necessary permissions to get off the ground. According to an article in Eldia.es, the association for the defense of infrastructure in Tenerife asked Aena to build a new terminal in the Tenerife Sur Airport taking into consideration that the passenger capacity is currently at 90%. Talks with Aena are in an advanced stage for reaching an agreement that lets Air Europa build a new hangar at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport. According to an article published by ElEconomista, the hangar will be built near Terminal 1, on land belonging to Aena. The National Competition Commission, which had already expressed their concern about the Aena’s privatisation, has now published a report on Aena’s dual till model.  In theory, the dual till is intended to separate the regulated costs from the ones which are a consequence of the commercial activities. However, Competition believes that the dual till implementation might lead to incremental costs which, in turn, would mean an increase in the airport charges. According to an exclusive in Reportur, Plus Ultra will have its own wholesale company Plus Ultra Vacaciones. Plus Ultra had been aiming to start operations in the first quarter of 2015 but has yet been unsuccessful in doing so. The president of the tour operating company will be Welcoming International, with Victoria González Zuinaga and Francisco Xavier García Fernández in charge. Both have experience in F&G Hotels and real estate development in Spain. Yesterday, Ryanair announced they will have a new base in Berlin starting on October 27. From there, they will connect with six Spanish cities: Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, Palma and Valencia. The new base in Germany was presented during the International Tourism Fair ITB. Apart from these cities, Ryanair will also fly to Athens, Bari, Bologna, Bratislava, Brussels, Glasgow, Palermo, Riga, Rome and Venice from this new base. According to Heraldo.es, two pilots from Zaragoza, supported by investors in the same city, have set up an airline to operate schedule flights, both domestic and international, from Zaragoza airport. The start of operations would be in Easter. The target is to recover the connections with Rome and Alicante which Ryanair used to operate. Yesterday, the Spanish Government published the first draft of the General State Budget for 2015. ActualidadAeroespacial extracted the amounts set for airport investments. The draft says this budget intends to “continue on the path to economic recovery, competitiveness enhancement and employment creation, enforcing productive investment”. Hence, the Ministry of Development will reduce airport investment by 18.3% during the first year of the Aena privatisation. In 2015, airport investment, together with air safety and security, will be reduced in 24 million Euros. This represents 5% with regard to the Budget for 2014.
