Despite Aena’s initial hesitation, Murciatoday published a report that Ana Pastor, the Minister of Development, gave her approval of the closure of San Javier airport to civil traffic which is to be replaced by Corvera. Murciatoday mentioned that during Pastor’s recent visit to Murcia, “the subject of the compensation which will have to be paid to Aena for investments made at San Javier when the airport is closed down was once again raised. The figure is currently being quoted in the press at 37 million euros, a debt which will be shouldered by whichever company wins the contract to manage…

The Airports Council International awarded San Javier airport a prize as the best European airport with fewer than 2 million passengers per year. The information was published in LaVerdad, where they interviewed the Murcia-San Javier airport director, Mr. Pedro Vicente Gallut. This distinction has been received just as Aena, the Government of Spain and the local Government are in talks for the closure of San Javier to open Corvera. It is surprising that San Javier continues to lose passengers and airlines despite the excellence of their services. Also, it is difficult to understand why Alicante keeps gaining travelers in the same area in…

Last week Vozpopuli announced that the government of the Autonomous Community of Murcia has given Sacyr a one week period to obtain a bank guarantee covering the loses for the first years of operation. Failure to obtain the guarantee would result in the definitive loss of the grant, which would be handed over to a new entity. That entity could be AENA. The president of the Autonomous Community, Alberto Garre has already announced that it would participate in the tender. Garre had promised in May that Corvera would open in October or November. Jetair at Murcia-San Javier airport / Joaquin Vanschoren

The story of Murcia-Corvera airport looks like the never ending story but at last someone mentioned dates for the airport to start operations. We had learned that Sacyr and the Government of Murcia had resumed talks in December for Aeromur – owned by Sacyr – to get the airport’s concession. Five months later, there has been no news about this. In the meantime, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, president of the Autonomous Region for the last 19 years, in charge of such conversations, resigned to go to the European elections in the list of his political party (Partido Popular). The day before yesterday, VozPopuli informed that Alberto Garre – new…

The Government of Murcia had reached an agreement with Aena to transfer all flights from San Javier to Región de Murcia Intl Airport (Corvera) and hence, the only thing left was the agreement between the Government and Sacyr. Both parties would have now decided to resume talks on Corvera Airport in order to find a solution and avoid courts, which would endlessly delay the opening of the airport.Ten days ago the Government of Murcia kept saying that a new tender would be opened for Corvera. Now, they might be considering giving the concession back to Sacyr through its subsidiary Aeromur.Aeromur’s proposal would be that the Government of…
