Murcia cancels the exploitation contract between Corvera and Aeromur Airports

As we had anticipated on Tuesday, El Confidencial informs that last Friday the Government for the Murcia Autonomous Region cancelled the exploitation contract between Corvera and Aeromur, the company owned by Sacyr Vallehermoso.A new tender is now expected so that other companies show their interest in the airport exploitation. The “civil works finished a year and a half ago, although some facilities such as technology, security, etc. are left”. Following with the public tender for the handling licenses in the Spanish airports, the draft issued by Aena to this respect has warned the Handling companies. Amongst other issues, this draft suggests an average decrease by 30% with regard to the current handling fees.The tender will be carried out in two phases: the first one for the airports with less than one million passengers per year and, the second one, for the airports with over one million passengers per year.Aena had said they would seek “an increase in competition and quality and a decrease in prices”. Handling discounts: The Aena’s General Director, Javier Marín, in a meeting with an information media group (Unidad Editorial), confirmed they are working on the procedures to award the handling services to 43 airports of the net. Among the conditions required by Aena, he explained there will be additional handling discounts to airlines operating new routes.The public tender should be opened sometime between July and December 2013.The airports of Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Alicante and Palma will have three Handling companies.
