As we had already anticipated, Alicante has now officially changed names to become Alicante-Elche.This became official as soon as it was published in the Spanish Official Gazette on the 12th of July. For further information you can download the document here.If you check the link to Wikipedia from our airport data base, you will notice the information there is already updated. However, they are keeping “Alicante Airport” as the name despite referring to the airport as Alicante-Elche in the body of the definition. It has been on the Spanish media quite frequently during the last months and it looks like it has now been confirmed: The Government said that Alicante Airport will change names to become Alicante-Elche. This will cost 50,000 euros to the Elche city, which will be spent on the sign changes.The IATA airport code is expected to remain the same, as “ALC”. Castellón airport runway OK, a safety plan is left Airports,FC Tools

Aena, responsible for the test flight, has issued a positive report. Before that, the air space had been approved by the Ministries of Public works and Defense. Some test flights were operated with a Beechcraft B-300 on 18 Feb.According to local media, an airfield has been already assigned and the routes for approach are already fixed.Begining this week Aena certified that the 2,700 meter Castellón airport runway can accept commercial flights. However, for its final approval, customs must be certified by the Home Office.
